Anyone?

I'm curious; does anyone here raise meat goats? Or are we just a dairy oriented bunch? Anyone interested in meat goats? Again, just curious. :) I'll probably get a few this year to go in tandem with the pigs as my blackberry eradication plan.

  1. I raise a Boer doe, yes. But not for meat, for dairy, and her ability to mother like a trooper. My girl Cleo is the best mama, even to kids who are not her own. And the milk from a Boer is very high in butterfat.

But I would never eat them. That would be too hard for me.

  2. I just did sell my Boer buck last week. I was crossing my Nubians with him. One alreay had twin doelings. The other hasn't had hers yet. I think if I had more Nubians, I would have kept him.

  3. Thanks for the great blog!
I don't raise goats YET, but when I do I plan to have dairy and meat goats. I love goat meat and I love the idea of knowing where my meat comes from even more. So instead of selling off all bucks or unneeded does, we will butcher some of them. I hope to start raising goats after the summer.

  4. Just my nubians. I've never had goat meat - I was a vegetarian for years and years. I'm not now but still don't eat a whole lot of meat - mainly but I'm not a very good cook! But I definitely can bake!!

  5. Hey yoo!!
I have a Nubain/Boer cross but she rejected her baby and I sold it. I don't do the bottle thing. It was her first year and the situation wasn't the best, so I'm letting her try again. So to your question, Yup, I'd love to try meat goats. It's probably sooooo much easier than dairy. =P

  6. I have my 5 Nubians I milk, but I bread them to my savannah/boer buck and get nice meat goats. I do have one huge doe that is 75% kiko/25% boer that I also breed to the said buck that gives many fast growing meat kids.
