Know Your Bees

I found this cool, free poster online today and liked it so much that I had to share it with y'all! These are the seven different kinds of bees you can raise, and a line up of their pros and cons. I wasn't super familiar with the Buckfast breed, but now I'm thinkin' I need to look into those ones... Sounds like they might be a bit better than the traditional Italian in many respects.

I just read you don't want buckfast bees from texas. I guess they are super mean. They say you should pay the extra $$ to get them from canada. Those are supposed to be really calm.
We hope to get bees someday, but my son is allergic so we have to wait until we get enough land to put the hives far from the house.

Good to know! I'll have to keep that in mind!

I have found this to be true. I purchased a Buckfast Queen from Texas and they were the biggest best producing hive I've ever had but also the worst tempered. They would hunt you down for hours after you had inspected the hive hitting the windows of the house trying to get in.
I name all of my hives and that one I called 'Angry Birds'.
